Hello IT Pro,

Welcome back to IT Pro Tuesday!

This week, we’re looking for your favorite tips to share with the community. Please let us know those that help you do things more easily so you get better at your job!

As always, we’re updating the full, searchable list on our website here. Enjoy.

But on with this week's tools...! Here are the most-interesting items that have come across our desks, laptops and phones this week. Hornetsecurity has no known affiliation with any of these unless we explicitly state otherwise.

Another Free Tool

tinc is a VPN daemon that uses tunnelling and encryption to create a secure private network between internet hosts. Appears to the IP-level network code as a normal network device, so you don't need to adapt any existing software. lucb1e recommends it as "a mesh vpn (that's) free to infinite devices."

A Podcast

Enterprise Dish is a podcast for IT pros that features industry experts, the latest trends plus analysis on what is happening in data center and productivity environments. OhkokuKishi likes it "for IT news, as opposed to just consumer tech that's all over the place. Episodes run 20-30 minutes long, so fairly digestible. It generally has a Microsoft focus, but it's still applicable for general IT."

P.S. Bonus Free Tools

mtail extracts metrics from application logs so they can be exported into a timeseries database or timeseries calculator for alerting and dashboarding. Serves as a link between applications that don't export their own internal state (other than via logs) and existing monitoring systems. SuperQue explains, "It works best with Prometheus, but can also integrate with other systems that support collectd, statsd etc."

CyberDuck is a libre server and cloud storage browser for Mac and Windows. Provides support for FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, Amazon S3, OpenStack Swift, Backblaze B2, Microsoft Azure & OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox.
